Ripped-right-from-the-headlines, during the Penn State and Catholic Church child abuse scandals, Haven Wu, a middle aged engineer makes an adventurous career shift, landing a dream job as a Managing Director for an avant-garde dance company in the big city. “I was an out-of-the-box artist surrounded by stay between the line engineers,” Haven explains to Ira Gross of NPR’s Fresh Life during a radio interview shortly after the debut of her fictional short story exit through a REVOLVING DOOR. A colorful cast of egos try their best to circumlocutorily deliver their coded messages with an octopus and an anesthetic laced mushroom. She is slow to decipher the warnings due to her enthusiasm and ideology.
Using audio to tell, dance to show, and video to delve into Haven’s sub consciousness, Carol Fields blends three streams of artistry to choreograph this colorful fast paced piece, exit through a REVOLVING DOOR (2012). The cast of dancers and aerialist; Lisa Christensen, Carol Fields, Mary Gavin, Kevin Herring, Michael Hoon, Sharon Took-Zozaya, and Allyson Ramage; squirm, swirl and bounce to the music of KINSKI, Albert Mathias, Copeland, Maneesh DeMoor, Seven Chapter Ensemble and Wax (Ren & Stippy Happy Happy Joy Joy) to bring the trepidation surrounding child abuse and unemployment into focus. No answers are prescribed in this piece- of-art but merely an alternative angle from which to view from. One observation is made however - choose your close friends wisely – they may hold the key to happiness.
