Meet the cast.

Laura Marsh

dancer & singer

Laura Marsh is originally from Memphis, TN, where she majored in Theatre with a Dance Concentration at University Of Memphis. After graduation, she became a member of Project: Motion, a modern dance company. Laura danced, choreographed, and taught company classes for Project: Motion for 8 years. Laura was also a member of Professor Chameleon's Eccentric Medicine Show, a children's theatre company. She was  a featured dancer in many musicals such as My Fair Lady, and The Rocky Horror Show. Since moving to the Bay Area in 1998, she has danced with Megan Nicely and Company, Nina Galin Music and Dance, and Spinning Yarns Dance Collective. Currently Laura performs with RightBrain Performancelab, a hybrid dance/theatre company. She teaches contemporary dance to all ages.

Afia Walking Tree

Afia Walking Tree, M.Ed. is a Jamaican-born, internationally acclaimed master percussionist, ritualist and educator.  She says we are on a journey to re-emerge as new conscious beings of Love and the DRUM is one essential vehicle as a guide, companion, and medicine. Blending her intimate knowledge of rhythm, natural land-based systems, healing and African history, Afia is creating a holistic model that restores honor for the earth and for each other through her artistic collaborations, permaculture, community building and individual coaching.  Afia currently lives in Sebastopol, CA and travels nationally and internationally sharing her inspiring "edutainment" performances and lectures in universities and festivals. She is a pioneer in the women's drumming movement, founding member of Women Drumming International, Born to Drum, and Sistah's Steppin in Pride in Oakland.  Afia is the director and owner of SpiritDrumz non-profit and Walking Tree Essentials landscaping. Kevin rediscovered dance at age 40. Now he is a card carrying member of Dancers Anonymous.  He danced with the Antique Moving Company in Salinas, doing tap and jazz pieces, fell in love with improvisational dance forms and built a dance studio next to his dental office to satisfy his mid-life crises. His motto is "never stop learning and never stop dancing".

Michael is in his second season with Viz-art-dance and can be found playing and working at the Santa Cruz Aerial Playground.

Liz Boubion

Liz Boubion has been an interdisciplinary dance-theater artist and educator for over 20 years, both locally and internationally.  She teaches Contact Improvisation, Modern Technique, the Halprin Life-Art Process and is a Somatic Movement Coach.  As the artistic director of the Piñata Dance Collective, she is devoted to sustainability in the arts through performance, education, ritual and ecology.  Liz has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), a B.A. in Dance from Cal State University Long Beach and is a Graduate of the Tamalpa Institute founded by dance pioneer, Anna Halprin. She has presented numerous dances locally and abroad and is currently exploring with the Nita Little Research Lab, performing with Afia Walking Tree and Friends and leading expressive arts classes for seniors with memory loss.  Boubion has held four choreographers residencies in San Francsico including, Jon Sims Center for the Arts, The Garage in S.F., and THEOFFCENTER.  Her work has been featured at Dance Mission Theater, S.F., Kunst Stoff Arts, S.F.,  Cal State East Bay Dance Department, Green Valley Village Intentional Community in Sebastopol, Ca., The Wurtzburg Tanz Festival in Germany, Art In Nature, and other alternative spaces. Lisa Christensen

Founder and teacher at the Santa Cruz Aerial Playground. A graduate from Stanford University School of Education with a Masters degree in Dance Education. She later became a Physical Therapist and finds her life has a sublime blend of the knowledge of human movement from her physical therapy practice, and human expression from her dance life. Aerial Dance has been in Lisas life at many stages beginning with competitive gymnastics, land dancing, performing with Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus, with the Flying Viennas Flying Trapeze Act, Janlyn Dance Company and many other local and visiting companies and choreographers.

She recently has focused on teaching tissu, bungee dancing, and enabling dancers to find seamless transitions between ideas, metaphors and context with aerial and land dances. See calendar for class  dates and times.

Carol Fields

artistic director & dancer

Carol is the Artistic Director of viz-art-dance (formally know as  The Carol Fields Dance Projects (CFDP) )where she choreographs, performs and directs collaborate community based mixed media performances that cultivate interdisciplinary art forms, producing dance theater events that illuminate humanity with humor, sensitivity and poignancy throughout Northern California’s bay area. Recent 2011-2012 performance collaborations have included: Rita Rivera (Santa Cruz, CA), Per Haaland & Dancers (Santa Cruz, CA), Chimene Pollard (Oakland, CA), Sharon Took-Zozaya’s Stomping Zebra Dance Company (Santa Cruz, CA), and Lisa Christensen’s Wild Blue Yonder (Santa Cruz, CA).
